The Philadelphia faculty engaged issues of pedagogy and diversity, especially focusing on the question of “how to integrate multicultural and gender diversity within the framework of theological education.” The school completed a multicultural diversity audit of various aspects of institutional life—faculty, students, staff, and trustees; financial aid; and course syllabi. Out of this research, the faculty identified two issues: representational diversity and integration of diversity. In discussing these issues, the faculty realized that their primary aim was “a conscious attempt to integrate the gifts of diversity within the framework of a theological curriculum.” This aim became the center of discussion of a day-long faculty seminar.
